    Re: BOS meeting...

isn't she correct in that they can't dictate what the schools do. That the BOS can only vote to fund the school board and the SB decides how to use the funds. The BOS can't say they will fund this plan or that plan.

    Re: BOS meeting...

The BOS can only deal in the financing, his plan included "recommending" what they do with their teachers and curriculum, they can't do that. As usual Rivers doesn't have a clue.

On what planet would this ever be considered a "compromise"? All schools stay open and it doesn't fix any problem.

Seriously... if the SB & the BoS can't figure out the solution in, oh, 5 years?, how in the H do they think they can bring in Norton and solve everything within a month ?!?!?!?!?!?!

    Re: BOS meeting...

It is not about fixing anything it is about getting re-elected......wheather the plan could or could not have worked he can now tell the voters that will be out for blood when consolidation happens with NO new schools that if only they had went with his plan all could have been avoided.....

From what I understand the Schools will start redoing there scheduled april 1st in anticipation one the elimination of Pound, St Paul and Appy if nothing changes

After tonight's public hearing, the board will appoint the principals of the consolidated schools either immediately after the meeting or tomorrow. Those principals will then be selecting their staff for the high schools in the next week.

    Re: BOS meeting...

You know, what SHOULD happen now is ... the SB goes ahead and builds a new school at, what was it, appple house?, for Wise & Coeburn... they have enough BoS money and should be able to keep the $15M bond. They talk to Norton about going in on a new one for them, Coeburn & St. Paul. But when that bldg is ready, move PV there for a year while they overhaul the bldg. in BSG.

Just read an article on the budgets for Patrick County (just past Hillsville) that has some interesting info. County budget is $39 Mil, school budget is $27 Mil, but only 25% comes from the county. 85% of the school budget is payroll.

Amelia County (near Richmond) has a $31 Mil budget with $16.5 Mil going to the schools

Lets just put it this way, this was a fabulous job of "skirting" the reason Mr. Baker is ending his reign as Superintendent in such short order. I will be one ticked off person now also if they bring up Jim Scott as interim until a new Superintendent can be found after the boondoggle that ballfield setup has become in GC with the lies that was being built around.

Yep. I lay a huge portion of the blame at the feet of Jim Scott on this.
